Truffle Report is a psychedelics news editorial platform with an intentionally minimal brand. Clean, restrained, editorial. That restraint creates contrast against the expressive, experimental visuals the subject matter calls for. My broader role at Puff Digital was to protect that balance across web, social, newsletters, and motion, keeping the platform grounded while letting the creative breathe.

The Maria Sabina animation was the flagship project from that time. It was Episode 1 of the History of Psychedelics series, covering the story of Maria Sabina and R. Gordon Wasson, and it put every part of my skill set to use at once.

The project started with a rough script. From there I sketched out the key scenes and developed style frames to lock in the visual direction before any animation work began. Character design and storyboarding went through approval before anything moved to production.

Once the art direction was signed off, I built the digital sets in Adobe Illustrator to establish structure, then brought them into Photoshop to layer in textures and depth. Characters were rigged and animated in After Effects using Joysticks and Sliders and Rubberhose, which gave me expressive, fluid movement without going frame-by-frame.

Sound design was the last piece, and it mattered. I pulled together a mix of music and ambient sound to sit under the visuals and pull the whole thing together.

The final animation is a fully produced short that tells a genuinely interesting chapter of psychedelic history in a way that's visual, accessible, and in line with what Truffle Report was building toward. It demonstrated what I could do across the full production pipeline, from first sketch to final export, and it remains one of the strongest motion pieces in my portfolio.
